Around 400 people attended Redhill Community Centre’s second annual Family Fun Day on 9th November.

Fun Day 2019 crowdThe community enjoyed a range of free activities, from the ever-popular giant inflatable slide to ‘sumo wrestling’ and fun side show attractions that tested people’s agility and reflexes. Face painting by Sazzle Dazzle, a children’s disco, rock climbing and a thrilling performance by the Tatau Dance Group were other highlights of the day. Free popcorn, a sausage sizzle and candy floss left young tummies happy, but adults were not left out; a refreshing cuppa and homemade scones and other yummy treats were available  in the centre’s café for a small cost.

As well as the gala attractions and food options,  there were exhibitors’ stalls promoting vocational training opportunities and encouraging voter enrolment. Redhill Community Centre also had its own stall to tell people about the CAP Life Skills programme.

“We held our first Family Fun Day last year, to mark our 10th anniversary,” says Redhill Community Centre manager, Jo McKinnell. “It was such a hit the first time we intend to make it an annual event. This year we were blessed with good weather even though rain and strong winds were forecast. From people’s comments on our Facebook page and as they left to go home, we know that families appreciated an opportunity to take their children to a safe, fun and free activity in their neighbourhood.

“We are thankful to our sponsors CLM and Countdown and to the wonderful volunteers who made the day such a success. And a special mention should go to Sarah Poepjes, our sports coordinator, who did much of the planning and organising for the day.”
